Cake Baking, just because

My grandchildren have been bored, off and on, today.  That doesn’t bode well for the summer vacation that has just started.  Earlier, the oldest asked me what I used to do when I was young and I got bored.  I told her several things like — play board games, listen to the radio or to records, play outside, visit friends, call friends, write letters, use my imagination and make up a game, things like that.  I told her we did not have computers or cable TV or any kind of game devices.  She was fairly horrified, I do believe.  She left the room with a disgusted look on her face.

A little later, she said she wanted to bake something.  I mentioned it to her dad.  He said — go for it!  So, she is making her first cake, alone!  Well, she and her sister are making it together.  They are arguing about every step.  They both want to do each step alone, themselves.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for something edible.

Hi Sharon — isn’t it amazing how easily kids are bored today?! When we were kids heaven forbid we mention or let our Mom’s get wind of the fact we were bored. States of boredom usually generated the following list: clean your room, dust the living room, hang the clothes OUTSIDE on the LINE!, weed the garden and the list goes on and on. I think our generation also had far more imagination than later gens. I’m glad I grew up when I did and in the time I did as I have no trouble being on my on or alone. I always have something to do, as I know you do as evidenced by your posts. Anyway, I hope the cake turned out well enough to be edible. I take it you weren’t consulted? Stay cool. It’s very hot here today.
